With funding from PepsiCo, we are proud to offer children under 18 the opportunity to be active, learn about health and nutrition, and have fun at the Kids Booth through the Healthy YOUth Challenge. Every time they visit the market, children can either spin our prize wheel or take their chances at our Plinko board to earn up to $10 in market money. This is combined with a physical activity and trivia questions about health.

The Kids Kafé at the Letcher County Farmers Market is a USDA Summer Feeding Site sponsored by the Letcher County Public Schools. At the food booth, we serve fresh meals sourced with local products from many of the market's growers. Some of the items served include blueberry smoothies, breakfast wraps, and fajitas. Children can also take a spin on our bikes to blend their own smoothies. All kids ages 18 and under eat free, and items are sold at low cost to anyone 19 and up.
After school resumes and the Summer Feeding Program ends, Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation sponsors the food booth to continue to offer free meals to youth. The food booth is open every market (Saturdays from May to October, 9-12 and Thursdays from June to August, 4-7). |
